Vintage Quilt Tops Used as Curtains

We ventured out one Memorial Day to a flea market in Dobson, NC where I found these two (and two other) quilt tops. The man who was left in charge due to his wife having errands to run decided they were useless, and sold them to me for a quarter a piece. I now have beautiful family room curtains and one for hubby's office for less than a dollar.I am fond of all aged quilts, as each has a story to tell.

Purpose:

When I was a little girl, wearing hand-me-downs was not the in thing to do. But when I became a teen, my parents opened an antique shop and Mom became the first female auctioneer in Mercer County, PA.

I remember when I was about four years old I was taken to some sort of crafty summercampish thing and we pasted wooden shapes to plywood and then painted them in watercolor. I thought it was the most amazing thing in the world. And I immediately fell in love with the world of creative expression.
When I was a teen I would watch my Dad turn old beat up furniture into beautiful pieces of art. And there were always rare oddities amass via box lots at auctions.
As I got older I began to develop a strange love for recycling and re-purposing all sorts of items. Table legs, old cupboards, broken glassware, reproduction art, clothing and many other beautiful treasures. I was always into some sort of project. And growing up in the auction business made me appreciate all things old.
I had an adoration for the world of art; whether expressed through written thought, a simple drawing, or an old sweater turned into a pillow...
I began to dig deep.
I prayed.
Ideas emerged.
Creativity began to flow.
Hence the birth of Hand Me Dones...
